We had the great pleasure to have the scholar and storyteller Mensah Wekenon Tokponto visiting our school this Thursday. Mr Wekenon Tokponto captivated students from EP to Grade 5 with folktales from Benin. First, he told us about his home country, his childhood and his schooldays. Then he told folk stories in the traditional way with songs and a lively and exciting performance. He involved the students in his tales and so his audience listened very eager and attentive.
A big Thank You to the Lesezeichen e.V. Jena and Ms. Hansmann for helping to organise this special event!

The Hansel and Gretel Readers’ Choice Award has been awarded for the first time this school year. It was launched by school librarians of international schools in Germany. Eight schools participated to select the most liked book from the sixteen nominated titles. These titles included classics like “Matilda” and “Shiloh”, bestsellers like “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and “Tom Gates”, but also newly released and lesser known titles like “Flora & Ulysses”, “Wonder”, and “Fortunately, the Milk”.
Grades 3 through 6 students, who had read at least four of the nominated books, voted in an elimination tournament. In our school, 23 students participated in the four rounds of voting. The winning title is no surprise, because it is a well-known and favored book for many students: The winner of the Hansel and Gretel Readers’ Choice Award 2014-15 is “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” by Jeff Kinney. Congratulations!
Students can already make suggestions for books they would like to see in the nominated titles for the next school year. For more information please contact Ms Kästner.
